With over 20 years of experience in arboriculture, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the management, conservation, and care of trees and landscapes. My career began as a climbing arborist in the commercial sector, followed by nearly ten years as a climber on the Tree Team at Forestry England’s National Arboretum, Westonbirt. Since April 2011, I have served as Arboretum Curator at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum in Oxfordshire. In this role, I have been responsible for curating, developing, and managing 130 acres of Grade I Listed historic landscapes, species-rich wildflower meadows, and semi-natural woodlands. Within this role, my responsibilities include overseeing tree safety management and providing specialist advice on trees in relation to development and construction, ensuring sustainable solutions that balance conservation and progress.

Beyond my work at the Arboretum, I am involved in global plant conservation efforts. I have conducted fieldwork across the world, focusing on the conservation of threatened tree species. As a corresponding member of the Royal Horticultural Society's Woody Expert Group, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a professional member of the Arboricultural Association, I work alongside leading experts to advance the understanding and conservation of trees. I am also an active member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Global Tree Specialist Group and Seed Conservation Group, with my research focused on Bioquality Hotspots in Ethiopia and Japan. My work investigates how species occurrence data can inform conservation strategies for protecting and conserving biodiversity across these regions.

Driven by my passion for trees and the natural environment, I established ArboriCare Consultancy Ltd. Through the consultancy, I combine my extensive experience and commitment to professional development to deliver bespoke arboricultural advice of the highest standard. Whether it’s tree safety inspections, managing trees in development contexts, or offering expert guidance on conservation strategies, ArboriCare Consultancy Ltd is dedicated to helping clients make informed, sustainable decisions. My goal is to ensure that every project contributes positively to today’s environmental challenges while fostering a deeper appreciation for the vital role trees play in our world.
